The Columbus Blue Jackets built a three-goal lead, gave it all back, and still left Philadelphia with two points. Kent Johnson scored his second goal of the night 2:22 into overtime to beat the Flyers 4-3 at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. Philadelphia erased a 3-0 deficit with goals in the second and third periods, tying it with 11 seconds left in regulation.
Columbus Builds a 3-0 Lead in the First
The Blue Jackets scored three times in 2:46 of the first period. Adam Fantilli opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season, finishing a 2-on-2 rush after a pass from Johnson. Less than two minutes later, Johnson scored off a turnover by Flyers rookie Oliver Bonk, and Denton Mateychuk made it 3-0 about 50 seconds after that with a shot from the high slot through traffic.
Flyers Rally Late
Noah Cates scored his first goal of the season in the second period, and Trevor Zegras cut the deficit to 3-2 with just under five minutes left in regulation. Zegras then slid a pass to Tyson Foerster, whose shot was tipped in by Jamie Drysdale with 11 seconds remaining to tie the game. Dan Vladar made 11 saves for Philadelphia.
Johnson Finishes It in Overtime
Columbus got two 2-on-0 breakaways in overtime, and Johnson scored on the second one off a feed from Fantilli. It was the second straight game in which Fantilli was involved in the winner, since he scored the overtime goal in Columbus’s previous outing.
The Betting Takeaways
- Regulation result: The game finished tied at 3-3 after 60 minutes, so any regulation-time moneyline or three-way ticket on either team lost.
- Puck line: Columbus won by one goal in overtime, so Blue Jackets +1.5 cashed while Columbus -1.5 did not.
- Game script: A team leading 3-0 after one period had to survive two late goals, a reminder that live-betting a big first-period lead is a risky spot.
The Blue Jackets are back in action Thursday on the road against defending champion Carolina, and we’ve got that matchup covered in our Hurricanes vs Blue Jackets picks.
Question for the comments: Is Kent Johnson’s early production a real breakout, or are we riding a hot stretch?
